harmony for dying batteries
Friday, 26 September 2008
designed for soundwalk 2008, harmony for dying batteries consisted of 6 battery powered audio loopers hung within a vine covered archway at the entrance to an urban community garden. the same sample was played at various loop lengths on each sampler, causing complicated phasing patterns to occur within a three dimensional space.
throughout the evening, as the batteries ran low, the samples began to degenerate. this provided an unplanned transitory nature to the audio. the three dimensional illusion of the phasing audio broke down over time as they merged into a single, solid mass of static.
recordings made through the night have been edited into the eight minute track above.
